Blind Fitness and the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments are teaming up for CycleMAYnia! Come pedal with us on May 21 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm for an afternoon of movement and connection as we cruise the scenic Santa Barbara waterfront on surrey bikes. These multi-seated bikes are perfect for our blind and low vision community to enjoy a fun and inclusive group ride. Let’s get outdoors, move our bodies, and raise awareness of what’s possible with vision loss. Volunteer Guide Training will be included at this event. When: Wednesday, May 21st from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Where: Wheel Fun Rentals 24 E. Mason St., Santa Barbara CA 93101. There is a public parking lot located on Mason St. and Helena Ave. across from the Hotel Californian. Who: The entire community is invited to join our bike ride! You're welcome to bring your own wheels and meet us in front of Wheels Fun Rentals. Blind, low vision participants and volunteers who will be riding a Surrey, please RSVP by May 19th in order for us to secure the correct number of bikes. Description: The Blind Fitness Beach Walk & Run is a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors, move your body, connect with others, and help raise awareness for the blind and low vision community. Join us Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 9:30am - 11:30am. Date: Saturday, May 3, 2025 (Upcoming Dates: June 7th & July 12) Time: 9:30am-11:30am *Mandatory new volunteer orientation at 9am* Who: All people who are blind or have low vision, along with their family, friends, and community members. RSVP: To help us secure the proper amount of guides, please register by Thursday, May 1, 2025. Location: East Beach parking lot, at west Cabrillo parking lot near Cabrillo Pavilion Bathhouse. Nearest address is 1118 E. Cabrillo Blvd, Santa Barbara CA 93103. We congregate at the end of the west parking lot near the men’s public restroom, outdoor showers and bike racks. Look for the Blind Fitness flag. If parking in the public lot, please be sure to pay at the pay station upon arrival. iTogether, in partnership with Anacapa School, we will be riding surrey bikes with a group of middle school students and teachers. Our Blind Fitness participants will help educate and spread awareness of the blind and low vision community. Come pedal with us!
We will be renting surrey bikes from Wheel Fun Rentals. A surrey bike is a four-wheeled quadricycle, with a two, four or six-seated covered carriage and has an open bench seat where everyone can pedal together. With two steering wheels, the surrey bike is perfect for people who are blind or have low vision to bike around and engage in physical activity while also enjoying a fun social event. This is an opportunity to get outdoors, move your body, connect with others, and help educate the public of the abilities of people with vision loss. We do not need volunteers for this event.
